Several polling stations abroad faced bomb threats today during the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova. Authorities reported incidents in Rome and Genoa (Italy), Bucharest (Romania), Asheville (USA), Alicante (Spain), and Brussels (Belgium). Voting stopped only at the Genoa station.

Officials said the Russian Federation orchestrated the threats as part of its assault on the electoral process, a scenario institutions had already warned about.

“The state institutions have prepared for this scenario; we have established clear procedures, and we are cooperating with our partners in other countries to ensure the electoral process is not affected,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
