Building on 23 years of experience in the construction materials market in Moldova and Romania, BPM opened BPM PC STRAND in Chisinau in 2023 – the only factory in the country producing prestressed concrete strand. The company currently has an annual production capacity of 19,000 tonnes.
“The initial investment in the project amounted to €9 million. Today, including working capital, total investment has exceeded €13 million. The project was implemented with support from the EBRD under the EU4Business programme. Thanks to the project, we created 45 new jobs,” said Nicolai Tychinin, Financial Director of BPM PC STRAND.
The production facility operates a quality control and product traceability system. The company holds 11 valid certificates, while its management systems are certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Before delivery, the factory’s own laboratory tests every batch.
“We control the entire process, from receiving raw materials to the finished product. We test every batch and provide all the required documentation. This allows us to confirm the quality of the product and its compliance with the requirements of the destination market,” said Boris Șaitan, Production Director of BPM PC STRAND.
BPM PC STRAND exports all of its production. The company currently supplies products to 18 international markets. Its largest markets are Romania, the Czech Republic and the United States, while Poland and Serbia are among its other important destinations.
BPM is also investing in green energy. The factory already operates a 600-kilowatt photovoltaic power plant. The company’s next step will be to install an energy storage system with a capacity of 12.6 megawatt-hours.
BPM PC STRAND has also developed an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its products. The declaration provides information on the products’ environmental impact. An independent body has verified the document, and the company is currently registering it under the RTS EPD programme.
“We are preparing in advance for the requirements of the European Union’s CBAM mechanism. To this end, we are collecting data on energy consumption, energy sources and emissions associated with production. European customers need this information for cooperation with us,” said Nicolai Tychinin, Financial Director of BPM PC STRAND.
The BPM PC STRAND production line is operating at full capacity, while the company’s order book covers the next three to four months. To continue its development, the company plans to increase its production capacity.
BPM’s next major investment project will be the launch of a second production line. The new line will allow the factory to double its capacity to 38,000 tonnes per year and create up to 10 additional jobs. The new line will meet European market requirements for energy efficiency and production process safety.
