Breaking decision! Eugenia Gutul was condemned to 7 years in prison! Kremlin Condemns Sentencing as Politically Motivated

The Kremlin has denounced the sentencing of Eugenia Gutul as politically motivated. Russian press outlets published the statement from Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov shortly after the Moldovan court issued its ruling.

According to TASS, Peskov accused Moldovan authorities of violating democratic norms and exerting illegal pressure on the pro-Russian opposition during the electoral campaign.

“This is an example of a politically motivated decision and illegal pressure on political opponents,” said Peskov. “We are witnessing repression of the opposition and the denial of citizens’ right to vote freely. Democratic rules and norms are being trampled.”

On August 5, a Moldovan court sentenced Eugenia Gutul, the Governor of Gagauzia, to seven years in prison. The court also ruled that over 40 million lei must be confiscated from her.

In the same case, Svetlana Popan, former secretary of the central office of the disbanded “Shor Party,” received a six-year prison sentence.

Both verdicts are subject to appeal. Until the Court of Appeals issues a final decision, Eugenia Gutul and Popan will remain in custody.
