Ceban Thanks Romania for EU Support After Parliament’s Resolution

Ion Ceban, the mayor of the capital, expressed gratitude to Romania after the Parliament adopted a resolution supporting the commencement of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. “For us, it is important to be supported during this period,” wrote the mayor.

“Romania stands by the Republic of Moldova in our European journey. The Romanian Parliament today adopted a resolution supporting the commencement of accession negotiations to the European Union for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia. We thank Romania for all the support and openness to the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union. For us, it is important to be supported during this time,” Ceban wrote.

The joint session of the two Chambers of Parliament adopted, on Tuesday, with a majority of votes, a resolution on the European perspective of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, and the Western Balkans.

On November 8, 2023, following the European Parliament, the European Commission also issued recommendations to the member countries of the European Union to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The announcement was made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

A month before this, the European Parliament (EP) voted on the resolution calling for the start of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova to the European Union by the end of the year.

On March 3, 2022, the Republic of Moldova submitted its application for EU accession.
