The authorities of the Republic of Moldova will open only two polling stations on the territory of the Russian Federation for the constitutional republican referendum and the presidential elections on October 20, 2024. This decision follows the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement that, for security reasons, it is not possible to open five polling stations. In this context, the Central Electoral Commission has destroyed the 26,000 ballots designated for the three polling stations.
On Monday, October 7, the CEC destroyed the template used to create ballots for the constitutional referendum and presidential elections intended for voters abroad, along with the defective ballots.
The CEC opened the packages and destroyed the 26,000 ballots (13,000 for each election) set to be sent to polling stations No. 38/196, 38/197, and 38/198, designated by the Commission for voters in the Russian Federation. This action followed the electoral authority’s decision, which determined that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not ensure the voting process at the mentioned polling stations.
