The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has announced updates to the Regulation on the Establishment and Payment of Social Assistance, set to take effect on January 1, 2025. These changes aim to address current issues within the social assistance system, such as prolonged dependency on support and difficulties in integrating employable beneficiaries into the workforce.
“The main change introduced is the case management implementation, a method that enables better coordination of social interventions. Social workers will participate in multidisciplinary commissions to develop individualized assistance plans tailored to the specific needs of each family. This approach will ensure effective and personalized support for disadvantaged families receiving Social Assistance,” the Ministry stated in a press release.

Additionally, the revised Regulation will include measures to encourage the employment of individuals who can work. The objective is to reduce dependency on social assistance and help families achieve financial independence. The new provisions focus on identifying the root causes of the need for assistance and promoting social inclusion through employment.
It should be noted that Law No. 133/2008 on Social Assistance establishes the principles and conditions for granting this support, with the primary goal of protecting families in difficulty.
