Prime Minister Dorin Recean met Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly. The officials discussed Moldovan-Canadian relations, economic and investment priorities, negotiations on an agreement on social protection for Moldovan citizens living in the North American country, as well as the latest developments in the region.
The Moldovan prime minister and the Canadian minister condemned the war in Ukraine and urged them to continue backing the neighboring country. In their opinion, this will ensure peace on the whole continent.
Recean stressed that the authorities remain focused on the modernization of the infrastructure, ensuring peace and security, reforming the judicial system, and restoring the country’s economy, including by attracting new investments. The official mentioned projects related to the energy efficiency of public buildings of social purpose – kindergartens, hospitals, and schools, the implementation of projects needed to connect the natural gas and electricity networks in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, and the rehabilitation of regional roads.

For her part, the Canadian foreign minister said that the Ottawa administration backs Moldova’s democratic and European course. Joly assured that they will offer support to Moldova in all the key fields, including security and defense.
