The leader of the “Democracy at Home” Party, Vasile Costiuc, arrived at the Presidency on Friday, July 10, with a pie, but refused to take part in consultations on the nomination of a candidate for the position of prime minister.

Costiuc said that his gesture represented a form of protest.

“Today I came as a sign of protest, rather, with a small pie — referring to the classic phrase of President Maia Sandu, who complained that the pie was small. It is true that the pie is small, and in six years it has not grown at all. The problem of the Republic of Moldova is that the appetite of those who divide the pie has grown enormously. You have all seen the salaries, the millions of lei going to relatives, cousins, family members, and in-laws. The problem is that ordinary citizens are left with nothing from the pie,” Vasile Costiuc explained.

Speaking in front of the Presidency, the leader of the “Democracy at Home” Party sent a message to the candidate who will be appointed as prime minister:

“They must have the will, because we, the Parliament, will support all reforms and changes, and we will vote for all initiatives that improve people’s lives. But we have a clear message for those who will come to govern. They must reduce the unacceptable appetite of those working in state institutions… They must destroy the system inherited from Voronin and Plahotniuc, because this system will continue to destroy our country,” the lawmaker said.

At the same time, Vasile Costiuc announced that his party is proposing Igor Grosu for the position of prime minister, arguing that the party that won the elections must continue to take responsibility for governing.

“He is the only one who knows the formula of better times, the only one who has moral authority, won the elections as part of the governing party, and enjoys the greatest popularity in the Republic of Moldova. He is the one who won the elections. He should take political responsibility for governing, following the model of democratic European countries. Those who win elections should lead the government,” Vasile Costiuc said.

The consultations are being held in accordance with the Constitution and aim to identify a candidate for the position of prime minister in order to form a new government. The other parties have announced that they will not participate in the consultations.
