The head of the diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, started his working visit to Paris with a meeting with Catherine Colonna, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France.

The officials discussed Moldova’s European path and welcomed the discussions within the European Union regarding accelerated enlargement, an aspect also mentioned by President Macron at his press conference at the Summit of the European Political Community in the Republic of Moldova.

“I expressed my hope that our significant progress in implementing the nine recommendations of the European Commission will serve as a solid basis for the start of accession negotiations by the end of this year. In this regard, we count on the support from France,” said Nicu Popescu.

During the meeting, topics relevant to our diaspora in France were also discussed. We also discussed the importance of the rapid ratification of the Moldovan-French convention on the avoidance of double taxation. We also addressed other relevant projects, such as the Support Platform for Moldova, initiated by France, Germany, and Romania. I informed that the next meeting of this platform will take place in Chisinau in October of this year.

I emphasized the positive evolution of relations between the Republic of Moldova and France, including the increase in bilateral trade. In the same way, I thanked my counterpart for the support offered by France in the smooth running of the European Political Community Summit. And for the constant help offered to our country by the French partners”, said Minister Nicu Popescu.
