Serghei Diaconu, head of the National Crisis Management Center, said that the state of emergency in the energy sector could be lifted ahead of schedule, with the Republic of Moldova potentially returning to a state of alert. He made the statement during a public radio program.

According to him, authorities managed the crisis effectively after the damage to the Isaccea–Vulcanesti power line, maintaining electricity supply and restoring infrastructure functionality.

He noted that specialists continue to monitor the energy system, while the coming days will prove decisive for identifying any deficiencies and balancing flows on the energy market.

At the same time, Diaconu warned that the external context remains complicated, pointing to the ongoing oil crisis and the regional situation, including in Romania, which still requires cautious decision-making. He added that authorities will take a final decision on returning to a state of alert only after the Ministry of Energy of Moldova presents a detailed report assessing all involved entities.

“It may be the first time that the Republic of Moldova exits a state of emergency ahead of schedule, following a rapid and coordinated response that ensured both the continuity of electricity supply and the restoration of infrastructure,” Diaconu said.

The Vulcanesti–Isaccea power line was shut down after Russian attacks on energy infrastructure in Ukraine. This line normally covers about 70% of Moldova’s electricity consumption. After the disconnection, authorities estimated a deficit of up to 400 MW during peak hours starting March 25.

In this context, Parliament declared a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days, beginning March 25, 2026.
