The appointment of Claudiu Nasui as Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization was the personal choice of Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and PAS MP Doina Gherman said.

Gherman made the statement during the “Rezoomat” program on Realitatea TV.

According to Gherman, Nasui’s candidacy was not discussed at the party level.

“It was Mr. Tofan’s decision and choice, and we supported it and respect it,” Gherman said.

The PAS lawmaker noted that while changes within the government remain possible, Nasui should be given the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities and present the goals he intends to pursue in his new position.

Gherman also outlined the reasons why Prime Minister Tofan may have chosen Nasui, saying that economic growth is a key priority for the head of government and that he values Nasui’s experience in economic analysis.

“Mr. Tofan has a very clear point, namely economic growth, as well as Nasui’s ability to conduct economic analyses and understand this field,” the PAS MP explained.

Vasile Tofan nominated Claudiu Nasui to head the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization on August 25. On the same day, President Maia Sandu granted Nasui Moldovan citizenship.

Nasui took the oath of office on Friday, August 28, and assumed his new position.

He previously served as Romania’s Economy Minister and as a member of Parliament. In Chisinau, Nasui said his priorities include Moldova’s economic integration into the European Union and reducing bureaucracy.
