Dorin Junghietu Highlights Progress and Urges Regional Cooperation at Energy Security Summit

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated at the closing of the international summit “The Future of Energy Security,” organized under the auspices of the UK government and the International Energy Agency (IEA), that the war in Ukraine redefined Europe’s energy map and priorities, reaffirming Moldova’s need for sovereignty, resilience, and integration.

Junghietu emphasized the major transformations underway in Moldova’s energy sector and the essential role of international partnerships. He thanked the British government and the IEA for organizing the summit.

In his address, the minister outlined Moldova’s significant progress in the energy field amid an increasingly unstable geopolitical context. He highlighted strategic decisions made over the past two years that have strengthened national energy security.

“We synchronized our energy system with the European network ENTSO-E, disconnected from the system controlled by the Russian Federation, expanded interconnections with Romania, and diversified natural gas sources,” Junghietu said. “We launched an ambitious national plan to integrate renewable energy, aiming for 30% green energy by 2030, and invested in digitalization, energy storage technologies, and smart networks.”

Junghietu stressed that energy security has evolved beyond a technical goal to become a national security pillar, economic development, and stability. “Energy security does not mean building walls; it means building bridges—interconnections, shared infrastructure, market integration, and a collective defense against energy constraints,” he noted.

Addressing over 60 ministers and international leaders at the summit, Junghietu called for increased regional cooperation and international solidarity. He underscored that while Moldova is a small country, with determination, support from development partners, and a common vision, it can become a model of resilience against current energy challenges.

The international summit brought together energy ministers, leaders, and decision-makers from around the world to shape a common vision of energy security amid the green transition, evolving climate, and geopolitical challenges.

On the sidelines of the event, Junghietu held bilateral meetings with government officials and representatives of major international energy institutions, further strengthening Moldova’s dialogue and cooperation in the energy sector.
