Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan appears to have signaled who could lead Moldova’s Ministry of Finance in the next government after a draft fiscal policy published on the ministry’s website was signed by him, even though his Cabinet has not yet been approved by Parliament.

The document is also countersigned by Acting Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilita, who remained in office after the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu’s government, and by Government Secretary General Alexei Buzu.

According to BANI.MD, representatives of the Ministry of Finance did not respond to requests for comment regarding the publication of the document.

Earlier, Tofan announced that he had completed consultations with all 16 interim ministers, asking each of them to submit an assessment of the situation in their respective ministries.

He requested analyses covering priorities for the next 12 months, existing bottlenecks and risks, obligations related to Moldova’s European integration process, opportunities to reduce administrative costs, and proposals for improving the functioning of the government.

Following the consultations, Tofan said he now has “a much clearer picture” of the situation across all sectors. He added that the next steps include deciding on the composition of the future Cabinet and finalizing the government’s program after consultations with political parties and representatives from various sectors.

According to the prime minister-designate, the new government should focus on a limited number of clear priorities, maintain strict discipline in the use of public funds, and be evaluated based on its results.

Neither Vasile Tofan nor the Ministry of Finance has publicly commented on whether the publication of the signed draft indicates who will serve as finance minister in the future Cabinet.
