Moldova’s State Tax Service imposed more than 1.2 million lei in fines during June on individuals carrying out economic activities without legal registration.

According to the authority, inspectors documented 769 cases of illegal entrepreneurial activity over the course of the month. The offenders received fines totaling 1,280,550 lei.

The violations primarily involved the sale of goods, including online commerce, the provision of various services, and passenger transportation by taxi.

The State Tax Service said the sanctions targeted individuals conducting business without registering under a legal form of economic activity. Under Moldovan law, such violations are punishable by fines ranging from 1,500 to 4,500 lei.

The authority urged people earning income from business activities to register their operations and declare their income in order to avoid penalties. It also warned that undeclared work can have long-term consequences, including the loss of social protection and pension rights.

The Tax Service further encouraged consumers to request a fiscal receipt for every product or service they purchase and to avoid transactions that are not properly recorded for tax purposes.
