Experts from the National Police’s Technical and Explosive Investigation Section have preliminarily determined that the drone found in Floresti district has features characteristic of the “Gerbera” type, which is used by the Russian Federation. According to the preliminary findings, this is the first time an aircraft of this type has been detected on the territory of Moldova. The drone was also equipped with an onboard camera.
“Experts determined that the drone collided with a tree before falling to the ground and exploding. Police continue their examination to establish the exact model, manufacturer, technical characteristics and all circumstances of the incident. The exact identification of the aircraft will be confirmed following specialized expert examinations,” the National Police said.
Shortly after the drone crashed near Cernita village in Floresti district, several local residents approached the wreckage and touched it.
“Look at these pieces, this metal,” one of the locals can be heard saying in footage published by Știri.md.
Four unmanned aerial vehicles flew over Moldovan airspace on the morning of September 24. An explosion was reported in Floresti district and was subsequently located in a field. Local residents reported hearing loud noises.
