A laboratory for training drone operators who will use the aircraft in surveillance and monitoring missions has been inaugurated at the “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
The first training courses are scheduled to begin in November. Twelve MIA employees have already received training in Berlin, with six of them set to become instructors for their colleagues.
The laboratory is equipped with 18 workstations designed for theoretical training, simulations and practical exercises.
Drones will be used to quickly obtain images from hard-to-reach areas, search for missing persons, assess emergency situations and monitor large areas. Information collected from the air can help personnel on the ground assess situations and plan their interventions.
The new capacity will support the use of surveillance and monitoring drones received in July by several MIA subdivisions.
The laboratory was established with the support of the GS Foundation and funding from the German Federal Foreign Office.
