Eight candidates have submitted documents to participate in the election for Governor, or Bashkan, of Moldova’s Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
The regional Electoral Council has completed the reception of candidacy documents.
On October 1, Fiodor Gagauz was granted candidate status. On October 5, the Electoral Council registered Alexandr Stoianoglo and Cornel Dudnic as independent candidates.
On the same day, Ivanna Köksal, nominated by a group of citizens, submitted the required signatures and documents. However, the electoral council has not yet made a decision on her registration, according to laf.md.
Other candidates seeking to run in the Bashkan election include Ivan Kilchik, nominated by the Gagauz People’s Party, and Petr Vlah, nominated by the “New Historical Option” party.
On the final day for submitting documents, independent candidates Oleg Garizan and Serghei Atanasov, the mayor of Comrat, also filed their candidacies.
The Gagauzia electoral authority has seven days from the receipt of the documents to examine the files and decide whether to register candidates whose applications have not yet been approved.
