Energocom returned to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development 35 million euros from a loan for natural gas

Energocom returned 35 million euros from the first tranche of a loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) last year, which the company committed to repay by May 1.

The closing of the €100 million tranche is scheduled for July 1, 2023.

The loan under the Natural Gas Supply Security project was used from October 17, 2022, to January 10, 2023, to diversify the sources of natural gas purchases and create strategic reserves that were not available until last fall. Purchases in two tranches were planned to prevent emergencies, in the context of which the whole of Europe was preparing for a difficult scenario – the termination of gas supplies by the Russian concern Gazprom.

During auctions, consisting of 130 rounds, with the participation of observers from legal structures, according to the rules of the EBRD, more than 300 million cubic meters of gas were purchased.

The Republic of Moldova has signed a three-year revolving loan agreement of 300 million euros to overcome the energy crisis. Last autumn, Gazprom reduced the volume of gas supplied to the Republic of Moldova to 5.7 million cubic meters (-30%).
