Energocom has secured approximately 76% of the natural gas volume needed for Moldova’s 2026-2027 gas year, which will run from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. The company says it has already contracted the entire volume required for the upcoming cold season, from October 2026 to March 2027.
Energocom has contracted 3,832,693 MWh of natural gas for delivery during the winter, covering the projected needs for the heating season.
The procurement process began in July. So far, Energocom has held 24 tender rounds, 23 of which were successfully completed. Eleven companies from Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Germany and Greece participated in the tenders.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Public Property Agency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Intelligence and Security Service and civil society attended all tenders. Energocom said their participation was intended to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the procurement process.
The company must also secure gas storage by November 1, 2026. The requirement amounts to 15% of the total projected volume for one gas year, which means approximately 134.5 million cubic meters for Energocom.
The company has already purchased part of this volume and plans to store the gas in neighboring countries with available storage facilities.
Energocom said it purchases gas in advance through forward contracts. The final price is not set when the contracts are signed but is calculated later according to a formula linked to the European TTF Front Month index published by Argus Media.
The company said it conducted all purchases in line with the strategy approved by Energocom’s Board of Directors and the natural gas procurement procedure approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Meanwhile, in July, the National Agency for Energy Regulation proposed new regulated gas prices for household consumers supplied by Energocom for public consultation. The draft tariff sets the price at 20.30 lei per cubic meter, including VAT, compared with the current tariff of 14.42 lei per cubic meter.
