Moldova will accumulate until October 1 about 15 percent of its average annual natural gas consumption, which is in line with European practice.
In figures, this means 102.4 million cubic meters of gas, states the central state supplier Energocom SA writes zvon.md.
The company has started preparing for winter and, after a comprehensive market trends analysis, has signed a contract and an injection schedule with the Romanian gas storage Depogaz. At the same time, Moldova is negotiating with several energy operators in the region to obtain good prices and preparing tenders to encourage the participation of as many companies as possible.
The insured reserves of natural gas amount to approximately 47 million cubic meters, or the consumption equivalent for ten winter days. Authorities provide these reserves for emergencies.

Energocom explained that they intend to cushion price shocks by purchasing fuel when prices fall and using it in winter when consumption is higher, thus providing consumers with price predictability.
In the summer of 2022, EU countries committed to storing at least 90 percent of capacity in Europe’s underground storage facilities in the case of states with storage facilities – 15 percent. The adopted mechanism strengthens the security of the EU gas supply and ensures the principle of solidarity between states.
The costs of safe storage of natural gas in the Republic of Moldova are borne by all market participants, according to the decision of the National Energy Regulatory Agency, in proportion to the volumes of natural gas supplied to consumers.
