On June 9, Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for Social Rights and Skills, met with President Maia Sandu during her first official visit to Moldova. The meeting took place as part of the first High-Level Dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union on labor, skills, education, social policies, and child welfare.
President Sandu and Commissioner Minzatu focused on strengthening cooperation between Moldova and the EU in key areas that improve citizens’ lives, including education, vocational training, the labor market, and social services. “Citizens want to live in a modern, European state with good schools, decent jobs, and quality public services—just like in other EU member states,” President Sandu stated.
President Sandu emphasized the importance of EU support for modernizing Moldova’s education system. She highlighted Moldova’s plans to expand participation in the Erasmus+ mobility program for both students and teachers, to develop a network of model schools, and to strengthen vocational training, especially in renewable energy and digital education.

Roxana Minzatu also met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Together, they discussed the implementation of the national reform agenda, which aims to bring Moldova closer to EU standards. A key topic was the reform of the social pillar within the Moldova Growth Plan, which grants Moldova access to €241 million in EU funding over the next three years.
“The EU will use this support to fund investments in education, social protection, the labor market, and healthcare—critical sectors for Moldova’s long-term development,” Recean said.
During her visit, Commissioner Minzatu also held talks with Education Minister Dan Perciun and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu. Officials also announced that Chisinau will soon launch a master’s program in European affairs. Education cooperation remains a key pillar in the EU-Moldova relationship.
