European Commission to Recommend Commencement of Accession Negotiations for Moldova Next Autumn

The European Commission will recommend in October the start of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine with the European Union. Correspondent Rikard Jozwiak of Europa Libera in Brussels announced this, as reported by Unimedia.

“The drafting of the European Commission’s enlargement report has begun, which is set to be presented in the second half of October. There will be recommendations for Ukraine and Moldova to start accession negotiations with the EU,” wrote Rikard Jozwiak.

The European Parliament has called for the start of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova with the European Union by the end of 2023, following the fulfillment of the nine recommendations outlined by the European Commission.

A resolution to this effect was adopted by the European Parliament, with 555 votes in favor, 49 against, and 26 abstentions.

On June 23, 2022, the European Council voted to grant candidate status for accession to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The Republic of Moldova signed the application for EU accession on March 3, 2022.

On June 17, 2022, the European Commission recommended granting candidate status for the EU to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
