As Moldova celebrates Europe Day 2025, cities and towns across the country are hosting a wide range of cultural events – from open-air concerts and film screenings to family festivals and exhibitions. These activities offer a unique opportunity to explore the artistic diversity of Europe right here at home.
Music
Moldovans will celebrate Europe Day through music in several key locations:
- Chisinau, 9 May – The capital will host a grand concert titled Peace, prosperity, dignity: Europe is YOU! in the Great National Assembly Square. On stage: Vali Boghean, Marej, Vopli Vidopleasova, Zdob si Zdub, Lupii lui Calancea, and Surorile Osoianu. The show will run from 19:00 to 23:00.
- Causeni, 17 May – A local version of the Europe Day concert will take place in Stefan cel Mare Square, with performances from local bands and the legendary Zdob si Zdub. The concert starts at 17:30.
- Tighina Fortress, Tiraspol, 1 June – The concert is organized within the European Union Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP Moldova.
- Cahul, 24 May – The Family Festival will gather residents for shared traditions and joyful activities. The event includes music, dance, workshops, local food and crafts, and intergenerational dialogue.
Cinema
Film lovers will have the chance to discover stories from across Europe, from historical documentaries to family animations:
- Chisinau
- The Girl from Tomorrow (Italy, 2022) is a drama on sexism and women’s rights. Screening on 14 May at 11:20, ASEM Scientific Library, F Block, office 103.
- Trained to See: Three Women and the War (Germany, 2022), a documentary about WWII. Screening on 21 May at 11:20, ULIM Library, “Lecture Room nr. 2,” floor 6.
- Icarus and the Minotaur (Luxembourg, 2022) is an animated family film on friendship and mythology. Screening on 21 May at 13:00, ASEM Scientific Library, Lecture Room “Comunicarea Colectiilor.”
- Causeni
- Mai departe (Romania, 2023), a biographical drama on personal transformation. Screening on 17 May at 12:30, Casa de Cultura.
- Cahul
- Secretul Insulei Pin-up (Romania, 2024) is a sci-fi mystery about time travel. Screening on 21 May at 14:00, B. P. Hasdeu State University, Lecture room 227.
Exhibitions and Art
Organizers have already planned several exhibitions, although they have not yet announced the final dates:
