(EXCLUSIVE) Ministry of Culture’s service inquiry: Joc’s director suspended after Petersburg event

The Ministry of Culture is investigating the performance of dancers from the national ensemble “Joc” at a forum in St. Petersburg, which many representatives of the “Victory Bloc,” controlled by Ilan Shor, attended. As part of the investigation, the Ministry suspended the contract of interim director Aliona Strambeanu and scrutinized her work.

“Following the participation of some employees of the National Academic Folk Dance Ensemble ‘JOC,’ with an artistic program, outside the established employment relations, in the Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, the Ministry of Culture initiated a process of verification of the activity of the ANADP IP ‘Joc.’ To carry out this investigation, the Ministry established a verification commission,” the Ministry stated for Realitatea.

Aliona Strambeanu explained to Radio Noroc that the organizers lured the dancers into a trap and did not inform them of all the event details for which they were contracted. She mentioned that the dancers took leave to participate in a private event.

“We were engaged in our normal activities when we received this news… We immediately began to clarify the situation. The minister was also upset. I, for one, am careful. I know we are a public institution, and we should not jeopardize the image of various projects that question our integrity as an institution or oppose our state’s aim to join the EU” Strambeanu said.

She mentioned that five dancers were originally set to go to Russia, but one fell ill, so only four performers attended the event in St. Petersburg.
