Fines totaling approximately 1 million lei have been imposed for passive electoral bribery, according to a press release from the National Anticorruption Center (NAC). The penalties for this type of offense range between 25,000 lei and 37,500 lei.

Additionally, the NAC specifies that it has received over 350 reports from the General Police Inspectorate documenting the mentioned offense.

Currently, the National Anticorruption Center is reviewing the received reports and will make decisions based on them. It is important to note that a person who committed the contravention may be exempted from liability if they self-report and actively contribute to uncovering or preventing the act of electoral corruption.

“Article 471 was introduced through Law no. 230 of July 31, 2024, and came into effect on August 15, 2024, with authority assigned to the National Anticorruption Center,” states the press release issued by NAC.
