Moldovan President Maia Sandu has revealed where she will spend the prize “for European values,” which was awarded to her in December 2023 in the Romanian city – Timisoara.
Thus, Sandu stated that she would donate the entire amount to charity. The head of state also denied rumors that she would not be able to receive the award.
“There is a response from the National Center for Combating Corruption, which states that receiving the award is allowed. We are not the first and not the last… And, by the way, this is not the first award I have received. Two years ago, I received an award from an organization in Norway, and the money was given to an organization dealing with children’s health issues. In terms of legality, there is no question here. The initiator of the discussion was a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. There were also representatives of the Kremlin who were happy to pick up the story.

The money has not arrived yet. The money is still in Timisoara. We will donate them to a charity organization, which we have yet to choose. This is not against the law. When the money arrives, I will tell you who the beneficiaries are – to whom the payments will be made,” said Maia Sandu.
President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was given the “Timisoara Award for European Values” prize. Timisoara Mayor Dominic Fritz stated that the distinction was granted in recognition of the efforts made by the head of state on the path toward the European Union.
