Former Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu will Run for Parliament on the PAS List

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu announced that he will run in the September 28 parliamentary elections, joining the race on the list of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).

“I’ve decided to take a significant step forward—alongside the team of the Action and Solidarity Party,” Popescu said in a public statement. “This is a natural move, aimed at strengthening our European path.”

He emphasized the importance of the upcoming vote, calling it “the most important election in Moldova’s recent history.”

“The outcome will determine whether we stay on the European path or risk losing nearly everything we’ve achieved—facing a return to isolation, corruption, and instability,” Popescu warned.

He described the vote as a fundamental choice about the country’s direction, people’s everyday lives, and national security.

Popescu served as Moldova’s Foreign Minister from August 2021, initially under Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and later in the cabinet led by Dorin Recean. During his tenure, Moldova obtained EU candidate status in June 2022 and received the green light to begin accession negotiations in December 2023.
