These days in Baku, Azerbaijan, “Salam Fest,” an international festival dedicated to films for children and young people, is taking place. In its second year, the event has brought together over 500 young people from around 15 countries, including Italy, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, and Uzbekistan. A unique feature of the festival is that all the young participants are also members of the jury, who decide the competition winner from among the five selected films.
The International Youth Film Festival “Salam Fest” was launched in 2019 by a renowned Azerbaijani production house, and Moldova is attending this international event for the first time.
The General Producer of the Media Realitatea Group, Sergiu Scobioala, has been invited to participate in the festival, and his daughter Laura Sofia is among the participants. Moldova’s presence in Baku underlines the desire to create cultural links and promote the country’s young talent on the international scene.

Over four days, participants might watch the films entered in the competition and vote to decide the winner. This innovative format, in which all young people are jury members, allowed for active involvement and encouraged critical and analytical thinking.
In addition to the film competition, the festival also included a series of masterclasses given by film industry experts. Young people, divided into several teams, had the opportunity to practice their filmmaking skills by making short films during the festival. These hands-on activities aimed to stimulate collaboration and give participants essential experience in developing their careers.
The main goal of “Salam Fest” is to create friendships between teenagers from Azerbaijan and other countries and to educate young people in the spirit of universal spiritual values. By presenting films of high professional quality, the festival aims to contribute to the formation of artistic taste and understanding of cinema among the new generation.
Moldova’s participation in “Salam Fest” was financially supported by Bemol Moldova. This support facilitated the presence of young Moldovan filmmakers at this significant event. Sergiu Scobioala said this festival is a valuable opportunity for young Moldovans to develop their skills and connect with other talented young people worldwide.
