Four people have been detained, and authorities have summoned another six for questioning in a case involving the illegal handling of hazardous waste and the alleged rigging of a tender at Moldelectrica, according to the National Anti-Corruption Center.

Prosecutors and anti-corruption officers carried out 24 searches on April 27 and seized documents and items relevant to the investigation.

The investigation focuses on the alleged manipulation of a tender for services related to the collection and processing of hazardous waste. Investigators believe the procedure was arranged to ensure that a specific economic operator would win the contract despite lacking the required permits.

The CNA stated that this situation created “a real danger to public health and the environment,” noting that the value of the contracts concluded under these conditions exceeds 4 million lei.

In response, Moldelectrica confirmed that the actions are underway and stated that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities, providing all necessary support for the investigation.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Moldova announced that it will provide further updates on the case while respecting the presumption of innocence.
