The Council of the European Union adopted yesterday, June 30, the assistance measure under the European Instrument for Peace (IEP) amounting to 40 million euros, aid to be used in strengthening the Army of the Republic of Moldova.

The assistance measure will strengthen the capabilities of the units of logistics, mobility, command and control, cyber defense, unmanned aerial reconnaissance and tactical communications of the Moldovan Armed Forces, by providing non-lethal equipment, supplies and relevant services, including training related equipment.

“The latest assistance measures are proof of our commitment to strengthening the capacity of the Moldovan Armed Forces to increase national security, stability and resilience in the defense sector,” the EU Council said in the announcement.

We note that the European Instrument for Peace was established in March 2021 to fund all actions of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) in the military and defense fields, in order to prevent conflicts, maintain peace and strengthen security and international stability. In particular, the European Peace Facility allows the EU to fund actions aimed at strengthening the capacity of third countries and regional and international organizations in military and defense matters.
