Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu urged Moldovans to promote the country heritage on National Culture Day. The officials highlighted the important role of people working in the cultural sector in preserving traditions and promoting the arts.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said the day offers an opportunity to discuss the importance of cultural heritage and to honor national personalities. He stressed that cultural heritage defines the identity of the nation.
He said culture saved the country during difficult moments in history and served as a shield against authoritarianism and attempts to destroy freedom and national identity. He encouraged citizens to attend theater and opera performances, concerts, read books by local authors, watch domestic films and participate in cultural events as a form of daily development. He wished cultural workers a happy National Culture Day.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu emphasized the role of cultural figures in strengthening social cohesion. He said their dedication turns culture into a bridge between the past, the present and the future.
Grosu thanked cultural workers for uniting society around traditions and for helping people appreciate art, theater, music, literature, cinema and national identity. He wished them inspiration and strength to continue their work.
The Republic of Moldova has marked National Culture Day on January 15 since 2012, the birth date of poet Mihai Eminescu.
