Igor Grosu, Speaker of Parliament, stated that further convictions must follow after the sentencing of Vlad Plahotniuc, noting that “the Rubicon has not yet been crossed.”
Grosu told journalists that he had not read the verdict and said he likely would not have time to review it. He emphasized that lawyers, criminal law experts, and attorneys should analyze the sentence and any possible appeals.
“One swallow does not make a summer. There is still a lot of work to do. This citizen, to express myself very correctly, could not have carried out all these actions, operations, and sophisticated transactions alone. He stands accused of leading an organized criminal group. He could not have done it alone,” Grosu said.
A court sentenced Vlad Plahotniuc on April 22 to 19 years in prison in the so-called “bank fraud” case.
