Health Minister Ala Nemerenco Highlights Moldova’s Healthcare Reforms at World Health Assembly

Health Minister Ala Nemerenco addressed the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva today, presenting Moldova’s progress in the healthcare sector and calling for stronger international cooperation to tackle global health challenges.

In her speech, the minister emphasized the growing impact of geopolitical instability and the reduction in international aid, stressing that global solidarity is essential for ensuring health security and sustainable development.

“Today’s challenges demand unity. Only through international cooperation can we build resilient health systems and protect the well-being of our citizens,” Nemerenco said.

Advancing Moldova’s Health System

Minister Nemerenco outlined several key achievements in Moldova’s health sector:

  • Expanded access to compensated medicines
  • Development of stroke treatment centers
  • Implementation of oncological screening programs
  • Digitization of medical services

She also noted that Moldova continues to provide medical care to Ukrainian refugees, ensuring inclusive access to health services amid ongoing regional challenges.

“These achievements were made possible through close collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Europe,” she added.

A New Global Health Framework

During the session, participants also approved a landmark agreement on global preparedness for future pandemics, reinforcing the need for coordinated action, early warning systems, and equitable access to medical resources worldwide.

Minister Nemerenco concluded by reaffirming Moldova’s commitment to strengthening public health systems and building global resilience.
