If the government led by Ilie Bolojan falls, Romania risks entering a period of stagnation, warned MEP Siegfried Muresan, as reported by Realitatea journalist Natalia Nicoreanu from Brussels. He noted that such a scenario could also affect joint projects involving the Republic of Moldova.
According to Muresan, a Romanian prime minister who lacks credibility at the European level would struggle to secure support from European partners for Moldova. At the same time, he praised the activity of President Maia Sandu.
“Equally important for the Republic of Moldova is that Romania be led by a prime minister who is truly pro-European and credible at the European level. A puppet prime minister who claims to be pro-European but is subordinated to an anti-European PSD-AUR majority will not be credible in Europe. And you know from the Republic of Moldova how serious it is to have a president who is not credible, as was Igor Dodon, or a prime minister controlled by oligarchs,” Muresan said.
He added that “a strong prime minister, such as Ilie Bolojan,” could accelerate financial support from Romania, strengthen ties between Bucharest and Chisinau, and advance key projects such as building bridges over the Prut River and interconnecting energy infrastructure.
On May 5, the Romanian Parliament is debating a no-confidence motion against the government led by Ilie Bolojan. The motion was submitted last week.
