Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu maintains his statement that former Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc still has the ability to influence processes in the Republic of Moldova, even while being detained.
The statements were made at Parliament after Grosu was asked about the responsibility of the Justice Minister in this regard. Grosu said that the Justice Minister “is doing a good job,” but warned that the influence of former structures linked to Plahotniuc has not disappeared.
“If someone believes that all those who served this person, after he fled the country, disappeared from society, emigrated, distanced themselves, and rebuilt their lives, they are deeply mistaken,” Igor Grosu said.
According to him, people who were part of former networks of influence can still be found in various institutions.
“These people are in structures, I don’t know, in the justice system, ministries, local public administration. We should not underestimate the impact and danger posed by these individuals. It is an ongoing fight, and a court conviction does not end this struggle. It will continue and, unfortunately, it will take a long time before it is over,” the Parliament Speaker stated.
Vlad Plahotniuc is allegedly coordinating from prison an information campaign aimed at discrediting the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). This is the opinion expressed by Parliament Speaker and PAS leader Igor Grosu on July 9.
Later, Vlad Plahotniuc published a response on social media, rejecting the accusations and mocking the statements made by government representatives.
Former PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc was sentenced to 19 years in prison in the criminal case commonly known as the “Bank Fraud” case. The verdict was issued by the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, on April 22, 2026, and can be appealed. Plahotniuc is currently held at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau.
