Ilan Shor was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the “Bank Fraud” case

Ilan Shor was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the Bank Fraud case. The verdict was issued by the Chisinau Court of Appeal. This was stated by Olesea Stamate, Chairman of the Legal Commission on Appointments and Immunities.

“Finally, a case in which justice has triumphed in our country! Shor – finally sentenced by the Appeals Chamber to 15 years in prison! Wherever he will be serving his sentence, in Israel or Moldova – financial assets, that were seized, now will be confiscated in favor of the state – 5 billion lei”, said Olesea Stamate.


Head of State Maia Sandu also commented on the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

“Shor will spend 15 years in prison for stealing a billion, and his assets will be confiscated. This decision was made today by the Court of Appeal. We demanded this for the justice, for the people. Citizens demanded this – that the thieves return the money”, said Maia Sandu.

The decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.

In 2017, Ilan Shor was sentenced by the court of first instance to 7 years and 6 months in prison for large-scale fraud and money laundering. He is accused of causing damage to BEM in the amount of five billion lei.

In 2019, as a deputy, Ilan Shor left the territory of the Republic of Moldova. According to the authorities, he is in Israel.
