French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Maia Sandu following the preliminary results of Moldova’s presidential election runoff on Sunday, November 3.
“I congratulate Maia Sandu on her re-election as President of the Republic of Moldova. Democracy has triumphed despite interference and maneuvering,” Macron wrote on social media, reaffirming France’s commitment to supporting Moldova on its European path.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Sandu and expressed her eagerness to work together toward a “European future” for Moldova.

“It takes rare strength to overcome the challenges you faced in these elections. I am happy to continue working with you for a European future for Moldova and its people,” she posted on X.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu hailed Sandu’s victory as a historic milestone for Moldova, Romania, and Europe.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate the Moldovan people and Maia Sandu on a monumental victory! Moldovans worldwide have made history today, showing the world their courage and unshakable confidence in a European future,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He added that Sandu’s win represents a resounding rejection of Russian interference and a testament to Moldova’s resolve to safeguard its democracy and EU ambitions.
Agence France-Presse reported that officials accused Russia of meddling in Moldova’s election, allegations the Kremlin denied.
