Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban has announced the launch of an international tender for the expansion and modernization of Industrial Street, describing the initiative as one of the largest and most important infrastructure projects carried out in the capital since Moldova’s independence.

The project will rehabilitate approximately 4.2 kilometers of roadway. Authorities have opened the procurement procedure to eligible companies from any country and will conduct it through a European electronic procurement platform. Companies may submit bids until July 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

According to the mayor, the upgraded road will include four traffic lanes, an approximately 800-meter collector road, and a modern connection to Transnistria Street through an overpass crossing the railway line. The project will form a key segment of Chisinau’s future ring road.

“This is an important section of the Chisinau bypass road. We continue building the infrastructure our city needs. It is the second project of such scale in the history of the Republic of Moldova,” Ceban said.

The project also includes the redevelopment of intersections with Industrial Street, Uzinelor Street, and Transnistria Street, as well as the modernization of the intersection with Sarmizegetusa Street, including the installation of traffic lights. Authorities will also create illuminated pedestrian crossings, some equipped with traffic signal systems.

Additional works include the construction of a dedicated parking area for 47 trucks, ten public transport stops, bicycle lanes in both directions, and an intelligent street-lighting system. The project will also reconstruct the stormwater drainage network.
