Alexandr Nesterovschi, sentenced to 12 years in prison, remains in the Transnistrian region. The head of the Information and Security Service (ISS) announced in a press briefing that SIS has evidence showing Russia helped Nesterovschi evade imprisonment.
According to ISS, Nesterovschi visited the Russian Embassy in Chisinau the night before the court announced his sentence. He entered the embassy’s courtyard at night and, the next day, boarded a diplomatic minibus from the embassy, which transported him to Transnistria. The separatist checkpoints did not inspect the vehicle, the ISS chief stated.

“The Information and Security Service has confirmed that the Russian Federation assisted Alexandr Nesterovschi in escaping imprisonment. On March 18, 2023, at 20:15, a day before his sentencing, Nesterovschi entered the Russian Embassy in Chisinau. On the morning of March 19, 2025, a Russian diplomatic vehicle transported him to Transnistria, where he remains under the direct protection of Russian special services. By the time the court sentenced him to 12 years in a high-security prison, he was already in the Transnistrian region,” said ISS head Alexandru Musteata.
ISS further revealed that Russian Embassy staff carefully coordinated the vehicle’s movement.
“According to operational data, the embassy driver headed directly to the so-called Mobile Consulate of the Russian Federation in Tiraspol. The agency’s analysis confirms that Russian special services orchestrated this operation to extract Alexandr Nesterovschi. They used diplomatic cover—specifically, the embassy’s involvement and a diplomatic vehicle—to shield Nesterovschi from Moldovan authorities,” Musteata concluded.
Nesterovschi disappeared on the day the court sentenced him to 12 years in prison. That same day, reports confirmed that the fugitive MP had obtained Russian citizenship.
Shortly after, authorities lost track of Irina Lozovan as well. She last attended a court session in February, and on March 3, judges prohibited her from leaving the country.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Marina Tauber also left Moldova in January 2025 and has not returned. Her lawyers refused to disclose her whereabouts.
