Giurgiulesti will soon have coordinated border control, similar to Leuseni so that citizens crossing into Romania will no longer need to complete formalities on both the Moldovan and Galati sides.
The Moldovan government plans to approve negotiations with Bucharest, and the cabinet will discuss this decision on Wednesday, October 6.
The Romanian government approved the memorandum on coordinated control at the Giurgiulesti-Galati customs border on October 23, 2024. A similar agreement has been in effect at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing since spring 2023.

With this new agreement, Chisinau and Bucharest aim to ease traffic at the Moldovan-Romanian border, facilitate grain exports from Ukraine, and activate the Reni-Giurgiulesti-Galati corridor.
Romanian and Moldovan border guards and customs officials will conduct consecutive checks without linking their databases, as confirmed by the authorities.
