Italy, my second home! Silvia Busuioc – the Moldovan actress who writes history abroad

Meet Silvia Busuioc, an actress originally from the Republic of Moldova, who shines bright in the spotlight of Hollywood, the United States of America, and who enjoys successful collaborations in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. It wasn’t easy, he worked hard, and now he proudly tells his story. “Half of my life I lived in Moldova, in Chisinau, and the other half – in Italy, Great Britain, and the USA”, says Silvia.

In an interview for Realitatea.MD, Silvia went through her memories and talked about the first years in Italy, but also about the challenges at the beginning of the life journey. Currently, the Moldovan lives in Great Britain.

“It was very difficult at first. I was in a small town in Italy. There were locals don’t look kindly on emigrants. It’s even more difficult when you don’t know the language, and at the end of the year, you’re going to take the Baccalaureate exam… At college, however, it was much easier, with different energy and with young people from different countries. Of course, I felt much better”, says Silvia.

In 2012 after graduating from the University of Milan, Silvia was accepted into the Actors Studio in Hollywood, a non-profit organization for professional actors, directors, and screenwriters.

The year 2013 – Silvia Busuioc was filmed in the Italian series „Fuoriclasse” in which she played the role of Galina – a girl from Ukraine, in search of her sister in Italy. The series was broadcast in March 2014 and became a success, being the leader of prime-time episodes on Rai 1 and registering more than 6 million viewers with each episode.

The year 2016 – the Moldovan plays in the historical movie „Gotthard” which tells the story of the miners who built the longest railway tunnel since the end of the 19th century. The film, named after the Gotthard tunnel, was directed by Urs Egger and is a production between Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

The year 2016 – role in the film „Untitled” directed by Chris Loizou. The production was launched in 2016, and the film participated in the Berlin Film Festival in Germany. Also, in 2016, she appeared in the Romanian comedy „Selfie-2” directed by Cristina Iacob.

The year 2017 – Silvia appears alongside Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons in the movie „The Snowman” directed by Tomas Alfredson. The movie was distributed by Universal Pictures.

Silvia had an episodic role in the series „Lethal Weapon” broadcast on FOX, and also in the famous comedy series „Veep” an HBO production, awarded with more than 20 awards.

She also says that she traveled a lot to settle in Italy, where she started her successful career, here’s why… “It’s good that Moldova is also part of the European Union,” says Silvia Busuioc.

“Since I was in Moldova, at school, I always dreamed of going to Europe, to study. My dream was to study in London. Fate took me to Italy. It will be good if Moldova will be a part of the European Union. I don’t want so many borders, so much bureaucracy. Probably, if the EU opens its doors to Moldova, fewer young people will leave the country”, added the Moldovan actress.
