Iulian Groza notices a Positive Trend in Moldova’s EU Accession Progress and Expects Negotiations

Moldova has shown a positive trend in implementing reforms recommended by the European Commission, and it is likely that the European institution will send a favorable signal regarding the start of accession negotiations with our country, stated Iulian Groza, an expert in foreign policy, for Radio Moldova.

“There are several areas that implicitly require continuous effort. It’s about the fight for justice and the battle against corruption. Here, we will need to see the European Commission’s assessments. When this process will unfold, taking into account the decision of the European Council in December. There are several steps that need to happen at the EU level to prepare for the launch of the intergovernmental conference, which will also mark the official opening of the negotiation process with the EU,” mentioned Iulian Groza.

On November 8, the European Commission will recommend to the EU bloc to initiate accession negotiations with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova as soon as they meet the remaining conditions, according to officials from the European Union cited by Reuters.

Following the European Commission’s report, the matter will be discussed in the European Parliament, and the final decision will be made by the European Council in the first half of December.

It is worth mentioning that on October 5, the European Parliament adopted a resolution recommending the initiation of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova with the European Union by the end of 2023.
