Japan and the UNDP to Boost Moldova’s Justice Sector Cybersecurity with $600,000

The Ministry of Justice, the Agency for Digitalization in Justice, Court Administration, and the National Institute of Justice will receive support from the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen cybersecurity and resilience across the justice sector.

Funded by Japan with a budget of $600,000 and implemented by the UNDP Moldova, the new project“Enhancing cybersecurity resilience across the Republic of Moldova’s critical sectors”will run until March 2026. It will protect public sector systems from cyberattacks and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential justice services.

“The Ministry of Justice manages a complex digital system vital to our justice reform and European integration efforts,” said Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru. “We must invest in secure infrastructure and policies to counter rising cyber threats.”

Japanese Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada reaffirmed Japan’s support for Moldova’s judicial reform, calling it essential for democracy and economic growth. “Progress in this sector will help attract investment and strengthen Moldova’s business climate,” he said.

The UNDP Resident Representative, Daniela Gasparikova, emphasized that the initiative will modernize justice administration and equip institutions for future digital challenges. “Strategic partnerships and smart investments are crucial to protecting public services and citizens,” she noted.

The project includes developing cybersecurity policies and training staff on best practices. It will also fund advanced IT infrastructure and security-compliant information systems. At the National Institute of Justice, a cybersecurity audit will identify risks and outline measures to improve protection.
