Rescuers and firefighters from the Republic of Moldova will obtain intervention equipment from Japan. The announcement was made by the heads of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, whose leadership is in Tokyo. The contract signed between the head of IGSU, Alexandru Oprea and the company “Toyota Tsusho Corporation” from Japan, provides for the manufacture and delivery to the Republic of Moldova of 19 special vehicles for rescuers and firefighters.
More precisely, our country will be delivered: 8 escalators with a length of 30 m; 2 escalators with a length of 54 m; 3 tankers with a capacity of 3,000 liters; 4 tankers with a capacity of 4,000 liters; 2 tankers with a capacity of 10,000 liters.
“The equipment produced in Japan will be based on a European chassis and will be delivered to the Republic of Moldova within 23 months. It will be distributed in 10 subdivisions of the IGSU in 6 localities and will serve over 1.3 million. of citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The purchase of the equipment is part of the “Improvement of fire prevention equipment” project, implemented with the support of the Government of Japan, which offered the Republic of Moldova a grant worth 1.55 billion. Japanese yen (approx. 230 million lei at the NBM exchange rate) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” announces IGSU.

The project is carried out based on the Agreement signed on November 26, 2021 between Ana REVENCO, Minister of Internal Affairs, and Yoshihiro KATAYAMA, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova.
With the delivery of the special vehicles to the Republic of Moldova, rescuers and firefighters from the IGSU will be trained by Japanese experts on the use and maintenance of the given technique, thus ensuring the transfer of necessary knowledge, as well as the sustainability of the project.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs hopes, in this sense, that it will increase the quality of the services provided to society, by reducing the response time to citizens’ requests in the displacement localities and in the districts served, as well as by reducing the number of malfunctions of the intervention technique.
Likewise, during the visit to Japan, the IGSU management had a meeting at the JICA office during which the aspects related to the implementation of the project were discussed, as well as the perspectives of Moldovan-Japanese cooperation in the field of emergency and disaster management.
