List of institutions that will be questioned in Parliament after the personal data of 750,000 Moldovans fell into the hands of hackers

Parliament will hold hearings on November 4 to examine the cyberattack and the leak of personal data belonging to approximately 750,000 citizens. The discussions will take place behind closed doors and will be conducted by the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security.

During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Information and Security Service, the Cybersecurity Agency, the Electronic Governance Agency, the Public Services Agency, the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, the National Centre for Personal Data Protection and the Prosecutor General’s Office are expected to present their reports.

Personal data belonging to approximately 750,000 citizens was extracted without authorisation during cyberattacks carried out between October 19 and 23. Hackers reportedly targeted around one million personal identification numbers (IDNPs).

The stolen information includes identification details, information about relatives and assets, social benefits and certain financial data.

Following the incident, Nicoleta ColomeeÈ›, head of the Electronic Governance Agency (AGE), announced her resignation.

Agency representatives said that financial systems had not been compromised, but warned that the stolen data could be used in fraud attempts.
