President Maia Sandu visited NATO’s Headquarters in Brussels, marking 30 years of the Partnership for Peace between the Republic of Moldova and NATO. This partnership has contributed to a safer environment for citizens, strengthening the army’s defense capabilities and enhancing the resilience of our society as a whole.
During the visit, the President met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The discussions focused on regional security, hybrid threats – including election interference and electoral corruption – and the need for joint actions to protect democracies in the region.

Addressing the North Atlantic Council (NAC), NATO’s main decision-making body, which consists of representatives from the 32 member states, President Maia Sandu emphasized Moldova’s efforts to maintain peace and stability with a war on its border and to strengthen its resilience in the face of hybrid threats. The President highlighted the tactics of external interference in democratic processes, such as illicit party funding and information manipulation, which undermine democracy and citizen trust. She also emphasized the importance of international cooperation to defend democracies worldwide and promote peace.
