Maia Sandu at the Geneva Summit urges development partners to support democratic states

In Geneva, President Maia Sandu urged the development partners to continue supporting the states that follow a democratic path.

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, participated today, at the invitation of the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis, at the Summit on effective cooperation for development, organized in Geneva. The purpose of the event is to question the effectiveness of development assistance globally.

In her message to the Summit participants, the leader from Chisinau spoke about the need to better adapt external assistance to the increasingly complex needs of the world’s states, including the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, Sandu urged international organizations and development partners to continue supporting the states that follow a democratic path. The head of state also spoke about the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to find solutions for the great challenges that our country has faced in recent years: the Covid-19 pandemic, the refugee crisis caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine, and the energy crisis.

The President thanked the development partners for the support provided in the management of these crises and noted that we were helped due to the transparency with which we acted and the credibility of the current government, regained in the last two years.

“For years, Moldova has missed opportunities to develop in a sustainable, transparent, and responsible manner. Today, we are firmly on the path of progress and are determined to advance our national development agenda in an accountable and transparent manner,” Sandu said at the Summit.
