President Maia Sandu has strongly condemned the latest violation of Moldova’s airspace after a drone crashed and exploded near the village of Crocmaz in southern Moldova on Sunday, August 10.

“I strongly condemn the latest violation of our airspace,” Maia Sandu said.

“A missile drone exploded near the village of Crocmaz in southern Moldova. This incident is a direct consequence of the war waged by Russia and puts us all at risk. The risk to people’s lives in our region is real and growing. It must stop,” the president said.

The National Police announced on Sunday evening that the aircraft that crashed near Crocmaz could be a “missile drone.”

Authorities said that Moldova had not previously recorded any cases involving the identification of an aircraft of this type.
