The Constitution is the country’s legal and moral foundation, guaranteeing citizens’ rights and protecting human dignity, President Maia Sandu said in a message marking Constitution Day of the Republic of Moldova.
The head of state described the Supreme Law as “a genuine commitment between generations” — connecting those who achieved Moldova’s independence and established the country’s freedom with those responsible for ensuring that future generations inherit a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous state.
“The Fundamental Law reminds us that, regardless of the language we speak, the place where we live, or the beliefs we hold, we share the same aspiration for our country: to live freely, with respect and mutual understanding,” Maia Sandu said.
In her message, the president also emphasized that the Constitution now reflects Moldova’s decision to pursue European integration.
“This is the direction we have chosen together and which we continue to follow through our daily work. For our country, this is the only path through which we can preserve peace and remain part of the free world,” Sandu added.
The Republic of Moldova celebrates Constitution Day on July 29. The Supreme Law was adopted by Parliament on July 29, 1994, and entered into force on August 27, 1994.
