President Maia Sandu met with Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova.
The presidential institution’s press release stated that the interlocutors discussed the next steps in our European path. This was after the European Council decided to open accession negotiations with our country last December.
“These steps include the initiation of an analysis of the degree of compliance of Moldovan legislation with European standards, the development and adoption of a framework for negotiations by EU member countries, and the full implementation of the recommendations made by the European Commission,” the statement said.
During the meeting with Jānis Mažeiks, the President emphasized the significance of engaging citizens in the process. In the upcoming autumn referendum, Moldovan citizens will have the chance to express their desire for the country’s European future and its aspiration to join the European Union.
